Vice Commodore Jimmy Peters at the helm of the club E Scow, one of the first donations made to UTSC by Jack Kern of Rush Creek Yacht Club, circa 1977

The first sailing club at UT was founded in the late 1960’s at the Austin Yacht Club. Originally a single club consisting of a fleet of six 420 dinghies, the Sailing Club and Sailing Team split in 1970. For the next several decades, both clubs were located at the Highland Lakes Marina. Many of our members would continue sailing after graduation and a number went on to become members of AYC.

In 2005, the club moved from Highland Lakes Marina to Sail & Ski Yacht Club & Marina. In 2012, the club returned to AYC where we are currently located. With the donation of a new J/24 in 2015, UTSC brought the Jolly Bevo I J/24 circuit team into the club.
